I am a media professional with five years of career experience – four years as a digital-first journalist specializing in entertainment reporting, and one year as a marketing and communications manager in comic publishing.
I'm now looking to embrace a new challenge and feel that I can bring a lot of creativity, hard work, and passion to your business.
Victoria's Skills Include:
Creating Material for Publication
Compass Points (Valiant Entertainment) – At the end of every Valiant Comic issue is a one- to two-page editorial spread letting fans and readers know about upcoming projects, promotions, and other news. One of my duties at Valiant Entertainment as to lead the creation of these spreads, first by pitching and writing copy for approval by Editorial, and then by working with Production to plan the layout for the visual elements.
Coordinating News Announcements for Press
The Faith ThinkGeek Collection (Valiant Entertainment) – One of my earliest projects at Valiant Entertainment involved working with our Licensing team to announce the launch of a clothing line inspired by one of our characters. This project involved pitching the announcement to the fashion team at Bustle, working with our VP of Marketing to write a press release, and creating marketable assets from raw files provided by both ThinkGeek and the clothing line's designer. The news was picked up by over twenty different press outlets and blogs.
Designing Assets for Social Media
Valiant Entertainment Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram Feeds – From March to August 2018, I was solely responsible for maintaining Valiant’s social media presence across various platforms. I often staged and shot photos of products, designed graphics, created animated gifs, and crossposted and boosted content from notable Valiant-affiliated talent.
Interviewing Talent on Camera
Netflix's Death Note Press Junket (Nerdist) – While my career has recently moved away from entertainment reporting, I believe that my experience with on-camera interviewing demonstrates that I am comfortable, well-prepared, and ready to have fun in high-pressure situations (that may or may not sometimes involve giving an A-list actor a high-five with my feet).
Experimenting With New Forms of Content Creation
Free Comic Book Day Game (Revelist) – As a way to appeal to readers unfamiliar with Free Comic Book Day – or comics in general – I used Twine to create a Choose Your Own Adventure game that walks the player through their first time visiting a comic store and being recommended different books by an eager employee.
Telling Stories to Digital Audiences
My byline has been featured across the internet at places like Polygon, Bustle, MTV News, Indiewire, Nerdist, and more. I relish in researching little-understood topics, asking engaging questions to talented people and professionals, and quickly writing clear and compelling narratives.
